Picarenzo

The Berger Picard is a rare and ancient French herding breed, prized for its intelligence, independence, and rustic good looks. Recognised in the UK by the Kennel Club (as Picardy Sheepdog) and gaining popularity across Europe, the Picard is known for its loyal yet discerning nature, trademark tousled coat, and expressive ears. While still uncommon on British shores, this versatile and charming breed is winning hearts with its unique blend of working ability and quiet companionship.
Breed information:
Coat type: Rustic, natural looking, with a soft, dense undercoat and shaggy, rough top coat that is harsh.
Coat care: Weekly brush. Coat will mat if neglected
Exercise: Anything from a half hour daily walk to a whole day out hiking, they are highly adaptable.
Training: Perfectly  manageable with correct handling and motivation.
Temperament: Good with children, dogs and cats if socialised correctly. Can be aloof and mildly suspicious of strangers. Not a natural social butterfly.
Special considerations: Not ideal for first-time dog owners, the Berger Picard can have strong hunting instincts and needs experienced handling – but has all the makings to be the dog of a lifetime.

Charactersketch: Independent, intelligent, loyal, spirited, sensitive, quietly affectionate, with strong herding instincts and a mischievous sense of humour.
